August 12th 2019, 7:14:43 pm

A record points total gave our senior men their fifth British Athletics League Premiership title in the last five years.

Bal Team

The Stags won their third match of the season to make it five men’s league titles in successive years with some impressive performances on the day in their last home fixture at the Alexander Stadium before the Commonwealth Games development begins.

The best performance of the day came from Craig Murch in the hammer with another personal best throw of 73.64m. With team mate Chris Shorthouse first in the B string it was maximum points in this event. Also racking up maximum points were Kyle de Escofet and Kaie Chambers-Brown in the 100m, Omar Ahmed and Will Richardson in the 5000m, Efe Okoro and Paul Byrne in the 400m hurdles and Sergio Argul Saneustaquio and Jonathan Gorringe in the 3000m Steeplechase.

It was a great day of celebration for the Club and another year on top of the table for our senior men. All the athletes who have contributed to the success and team manager Dave Lawrence are to be congratulated on their success. Thanks also go to Chris Blyth and Stuart Paul for putting on an excellent joint meeting with the UKWL. Full results can be seen

hereSenior Women

Our women did not fare as well in the final fixture of the UKWL. Finishing seventh on the day the team was fifth overall after this match. A lack of availability of many of our senior women  has meant the season has been very challenging and in this fixture we had no horizontal jumpers  and no high jumpers. Such major gaps resulted in this disappointing result but other athletes should be proud of their contribution. Bryony Gunn ran both the 800m and 1500m and Hermione Plumtree competed in the 200m and 400m hurdles. We hope to see a better performance last year as some of our younger athletes move into the senior ranks.
