December 3rd 2019, 11:30:36 am

The Club record for the women's marathon has stood for 30 years, set by Sally Ellis in London in 1989. It has taken a special athlete to break this record and Hayley Carruthers has yet again demonstrated her ability over this distance.

It was a day of record breaking at the Valencia Marathon on Sunday in both the men's and awomen's races. Not to be outdone our own Hayley Carruthers ran a superb race to break the Club record, completing the course in 2 hours 32 minutes and 42 seconds.

The previous Club record of 2 hours 33 minutes and 24 seconds was set by Sally Ellis, some 30 years ago in London and it has proven to be a tough challenge over the years but finally Hayley has improved this mark. In only her second marathon she reduced her personal best by over a minute. We look forward to seeing her progress in 2020 and lower this record even further.
